Kael of the Ouroboros Order sat cross-legged beneath the sacred obsidian tree, his skin shedding in soft flakes as yet another version of himself died in silence. He had faced cycles of betrayal, guilt, and inner decay—but now his challenge was one of reflection. He could see others’ flaws with clarity, but not his own blindness to connection.
He often clashed with Luma of the Celestials, frustrated by her ungrounded dreaming. “Discipline,” he would say, “is not a suggestion.”
But one night, Luma showed him her dream map—a glowing web of star-paths she charted by instinct. She confessed, “I’ve always moved fast so I don’t have to sit with my fear of stillness.”
Kael, shaken, saw himself mirrored. He moved slowly for the same reason—because to move meant change, and change meant letting go.
That night, they sat side by side, Luma tracing the stars while Kael held the root. When others awoke, they saw something new: a map of the soul’s journey—half starlight, half soil.
